Working in corporate America, I've noticed something...it's always someone's birthday. I don't think a day goes by that I haven't walked in the kitchen at work to get water and see some form of dessert on the table. Add in all the personal commitments on weekends like showers, house-warming parties, birthdays and holidays and you can easily find a reason to indulge daily.
I'm not saying eating healthy means never having a less than optimal food choice but be mindful of how often that is. My approach is that I will eat something if it's MY birthday, MY anniversary and maybe a few other times a year if it's something I really want and can't get easily. I don't need to eat cake because it's someone else's birthday. I actually prefer a healthier choice on holidays since meals are usually larger than a typical dinner.
My nut allergy makes it pretty easy when dining out because most places can not guarantee that their desserts were not exposed to cross contamination. However, what really helps me is incorporating these treats on a more regular basis which aren't perfect but work for me:

- grilled pineapple
- fresh assorted berries
- chopped up fruit with seltzer and a splash of juice frozen in a popsicle mold
- a glass of wine
- frozen mango whipped to sorbet in a food processor
- frozen banana whipped to soft serve ice cream consistency topped with a few dark chocolate chips
